چکیده
Aquaporin-based forward osmosis (AQP FO) membranes were applied both in laboratory- and pilot-scale for removing micropollutants from water. The effect of operating parameters (feed flow, draw transmembrane pressure) on the i) rejection micropollutants, ii) water flux, iii) reverse salt iv) recovery AQP FO membrane modules was studied. Among 21 spiked, only four compounds, atenolol, propranolol, metoprolol, citalopram, permeated through to an extent that they could be quantified solutions laboratory pilot systems. rates, based full mass balance calculations, between 96.1% 99.7%, all other 17 compounds showed exceeding 90% system further employed six days treat effluent a bioreactor (MBR) treating municipal wastewater. 35 investigated. 27 these identified MBR effluent. Minute fractions gabapentin, benzotriazole, metoprolol detected passing into side with constant around 99.2%, 95.4%, 99.9%. Almost micropollutants’ minimum rates exceeded 80%.

Aquaporin, forward osmosis and biomimetic membranes.
Aquaporin attracted attention not only of physiologists and biophysicists, but also of chemical engineers. Here we critically analyze a paper describing aquaporin-based artificial membranes, suggested for forward osmosis-based water purification (Wang et al. 2012, Small 8, pp. 1185-1190). Related papers published later by the same group are also discussed. We indicate recently developed general...

To meet surging water demands, water reuse is being sought as an alternative to traditional water resources. However, contamination of water resources by trace organic compounds (TOrCs), including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, disinfection byproducts, and industrial chemicals is of increasing concern. These compounds are not readily removed by conventional water treatment processes a...

Forward osmosis (FO) is a membrane separation technology that has been studied in recent years for application in water treatment and desalination. It can best be utilized as an advanced pretreatment for desalination processes such as reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) to protect the membranes from scaling and fouling. In the current study the rejection of trace organic compounds (TOr...

15 صفحه اولRejection mechanisms for contaminants in polymeric reverse osmosis membranes
Despite the success of reverse osmosis (RO) for water purification, the molecular-level physicochemical processes of contaminant rejection are not well understood. Here we carry out non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations on a model RO membrane to understand the mechanisms of transport and rejection of both ionic and inorganic contaminants in water. While it is commonly presumed t...
